Savory Yogurt-Goat Cheese Spread with Dates, Almonds, and Chia Oil Drizzle
from Wendy Bazilian – for Nutrition News Update

Ingredients

Spread

  • ½ cup (4 oz) Chobani plain Greek yogurt (whole milk preferred)
  • 4 oz soft goat cheese (approximately a 1:1 ratio with yogurt)
  • 1½ tablespoons honey (or substitute with 1 tablespoon date syrup)
  • ½ teaspoon lemon juice
  • ¼ teaspoon lemon zest
  • 2 teaspoons finely chopped fresh herbs (parsley recommended; mint optional)
  • Salt to taste
  • Optional: 2 tablespoons chopped dates folded into the spread for added sweetness and texture
  • Optional: ½–1 teaspoon chia oil for added silkiness and a subtle nuttiness

Topping

  • ½ cup chopped dates (cut small, uniform for easy topping)
  • ¼ cup almond slivers
  • Seeds of Wellness chia oil (for finishing drizzle)
  • Large flake sea salt
  • Microgreens or micro edible flowers (for garnish and color contrast)

Instructions

Prepare the Spread

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together Chobani yogurt and goat cheese until smooth and creamy.
  2. Stir in honey (or date syrup), lemon juice, zest, and chopped herbs. Mix to integrate evenly.
  3. Season to taste with salt.
  4. Optional: Mix in chopped dates and/or ½–1 tsp chia oil for silkiness.
  5. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Prepare the Toppings & Assemble

  1. Chop dates finely and set up all toppings “mise en place” for easy assembly.
  2. To serve on crackers or crisp flatbread bites:
    • Spoon a small dollop (1 tsp–1 Tbsp depending on cracker size) of the herbed spread onto each crisp. Allow for texture. This is not a thin spread.
    • Add several pieces of chopped date on top.
    • Insert 2–3 almond slivers vertically or at an angle for visual texture.
    • Add a few microgreens or a petal for color.
    • Drizzle a few drops of chia oil directly onto the cheese or dates.
    • Finish with a pinch (1–2 flakes) of sea salt on top.

Serving Notes & Tips

  • Chia oil is the feature here. The drizzle should be intentional but light—not oily or overpowering. It adds a silky finish and a subtle, nutty-earthy note.
  • Crackers should be neutral to lightly grainy. Include a gluten-free option if possible/needed.
  • Can be served fully assembled.
